988 Federal Changes

Effective July 17, 2025, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline will undergo a change in its call routing options. The specialized “Press 3” option for LGBTQIA+ support will be discontinued nationwide. We understand this change may be disheartening, especially for those who have relied on this affirming and culturally responsive service. Please know Greater Twin Cities United Way’s 988 Lifeline remains fully operational and committed to supporting everyone in crisis, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community. We are preparing for an increase in call volume and are working closely with the Minnesota Department of Health to ensure we have the staffing and resources needed to continue providing compassionate, inclusive care. Please continue to call or text 988 if you need support.

211 Tools

We recently launched an updated search experience at 211unitedway.org that features a more intuitive, user-friendly design and lets you save your favorite resources for quick access. Email [email protected] if you have a group that would benefit from an overview of the new website features.

We are also excited to share a new video created to raise awareness of 211 and the vital support we offer across Minnesota. Check out this short and sweet video introduction to 211 — also available in Spanish, Hmong, and soon, Somali!

Resources
  • Back to school! Get ready — it's time to start preparing for the new school year! Back-to-school resources are available throughout Minnesota. Explore Twin Cities metro resources here and call 211 to find back-to-school resources in other areas of the state.
  • Tickets for Kids is a non-profit that believes all youth should have the opportunity to attend a ballgame, theater performance, museum, and more! They partner with more than 325 social service agencies, schools, mentoring programs, shelters, and government programs that serve children from low-wealth households and provide free tickets to some of our areas most popular events. The program is free to participate. Check out the requirements and complete an application at https://www.ticketsforkids.org/tickets/.
  • The Transit Assistance Program (TAP) is designed to make public transit more affordable for residents of lower income. TAP provides a reduced fare pass on a Go-To Card and allows customers to use a bus or train for just $1 per ride — even during rush hour — with a 2.5-hour transfer. Signing up is easy and can be done in person at a Transit Facility location or online.
