Interfaith Series


Greater Twin Cities United Way is excited to launch a series of interfaith convenings, with our first event focused on criminal justice and incarceration. We invite you to join us on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church to dig into the role that faith communities can have in fostering restorative justice. Featuring Sheena Meade in conversation with Chanda Smith Baker, as well as two panels moderated by Olivia Jefferson, this free event will be an important opportunity for deep dialogue and tangible action. Understanding NEAR Science: Building Self-Healing Communities


Join 80x3 and FamilyWise for an enlightening presentation on how childhood adversity shapes our lives, our children’s futures, and the health of our communities. Discover key insights from neurobiology, epigenetics, epidemiology, and resilience research, highlighting the profound impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on health and well-being. Learn strategies to build resilience and foster healthier communities.


This event aims to create a shared understanding of NEAR Science as a foundation. We welcome everyone, especially diverse cultural and identity groups, to participate. Your unique wisdom is vital in creating healthier communities. Attendees will be encouraged to apply this knowledge within their families, workplaces, and communities.


This in-person event will be hosted by Think Small in Saint Paul, and will run from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. Develop-approved professional development hours provided for early childhood educators. Register here.


Start Early Funders Coalition's Parent and Provider Advisory Group


Start Early Funders Coalition is a collaboration of members of Minnesota’s philanthropic community with the mission to leverage their unique perspective as early childhood funders to advance proven practices, public policy, and community support for affordable, accessible, high-quality care and education in Minnesota so that all children have a strong, equitable, and healthy start, and are prepared to contribute to our state’s vitality. Start Early Funders Coalition (SEFC) has convened a Parent and Provider Advisory Group to deepen their commitment to amplifying parent and provider voices that inform and guide the coalition’s work. The advisory group provides a space to share ideas, solutions, and experiences to inform SEFC activities and shape advocacy and public policy priorities. Additionally, the coalition shares education information, community resources, and advocacy opportunities for parents and providers to:

• Testify at the legislature
  
• Serve as panelists or presenters at events
  
• Co-author blogs or op-eds
  
• Document perspectives with videos or interviews
  
• Participate in events, activities, and listening sessions
  
• Attend conferences, trainings, and webinars
  

We hope our community partners will join us and help recruit parents who have children under the age of five and providers who work in the field of early childhood education. Opportunity for an Interview with Al McFarlane


Al McFarlane is interested in featuring Greater Twin Cities United Way nonprofit partners on his show to uplift the great work led in community. He is looking to do live 15-minute interviews on Mondays and Wednesdays during his “The Conversation with Al McFarlane” show, which airs on KFAI and his social channels. This is an opportunity for nonprofits to talk about your work and impact while getting brand exposure. Interested organizations can fill out this form and a member of Al’s team will reach out to follow up.

• Minnesota’s Cold Weather Rule (CWR) is a state law that protects residential utility customers from having electric or natural gas service shut off between October 1 and April 30. Visit 211’s website to learn more about how to get started.
  
• Tickets for Kids is a nonprofit that believes all youth should have the opportunity to attend a ballgame, theater performance, museum, and more! They partner with more than 325 social service agencies, schools, mentoring programs, shelters, and government programs that serve children from low-wealth households to provide free tickets to some of our area’s most popular events. • The Transit Assistance Program (TAP) is designed to make public transit more affordable for residents of lower income. TAP provides a reduced fare pass on a Go-To Card and allows customers to use a bus or train for just $1 per ride — even during rush hour — with a 2.5 hour transfer. Signing up is easy and can be done in person at a Transit Facility location or online.
  
• At our convenings, we have shared A Commitment to Live Inclusively from The Winters Group. We share this again in full support of this commitment.
