LICENSED TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION
Reports to: Principal
Purpose: The purpose of this position is to lead and instruct students according to current and emerging Urban Academy (UA) instruction strategies, values and practices, with the goal that each student learns and masters knowledge and skills that advance their capabilities and motivations for life and work. Under the leadership of the UA Principal develop lesson plans aligned with standards and UA curriculum plans; collaborate with other teaching personnel to advance personal competence and quality of curricula; instruct and manage students; evaluate and assess instructional materials and student performance; meet with parents; and interpret students’ progress and inform parents/guardians about student strengths, weaknesses, and progress.
Responsibilities:
1) Plan instruction and other student learning support activities as follows:
a) Establish class and subject curriculum plans, as applicable to the teacher’s particular assignment and appropriate to the needs and abilities of students
b) Curricula and plans will be consistent with UA and State curriculum and assessment standards, objectives and plans
c) Review, select, and modify materials, resources and teaching strategies to carry out the curriculum plan
2) Provide instruction to students in ways that incorporate best teaching practices:
a) Develop daily lesson plans
b) Teach to verifiable outcomes
c) Select objectives and deliver instruction at the correct levels of difficulty
d) Verify and monitor student learning and adjust teaching appropriately
e) Use principles of instruction and learning in appropriate ways
f) Be effectively knowledgeable of performance assessments, checklists, rubrics and correctly use of each of these
g) Possess, use and improve appropriate classroom management, human relations, inquiry, and planning skills
h) Effectively use skills for inclusivity, diversity and differentiated learning strategies
i) Be effectively knowledgeable of child growth, development, and learning
j) Develop and implement instructional strategies to maximize student participation
k) Provide an honest, respectful, caring, and safe environment for students
l) Act as the classroom leader in classroom culture, UA values and passion for learning
3) Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students in the classroom, on school premises, and/or in school activities:
a) Communicate and reinforce expectations for appropriate behavior
b) Encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and respect for self, others and property
c) Adhere to UA policies, procedures and legal requirements
d) Help students develop the ability to prevent and solve conflicts
4) Communicate effectively with parents through conferences, written documents, telephone, and other forms of communications
5) Maintain effective working relationships with staff and service providers to meet the needs of students:
a) Effectively work in teams on a collaborative basis
b) Under the leadership of the Principal contribute to the improvement of UA program, curricula and teaching practices
6) Collaborate with service providers regarding the needs of students. Communicate accurately and constructively while preserving confidentiality
7) Use student assessments and evaluation to:
a) Assess student work to guide instruction
b) Evaluate student work to determine student progress and grades
c) Report student progress to student and parents
d) Identify and implement appropriate instructional strategies to meet the needs of learners
8) Be effectively knowledgeable of support services and subjects taught:
a) Use and integrate knowledge of curricular subjects and available student support services to benefit student learning
b) Maintain professional competency in assigned curricular subject areas
9) Continually identify, plan and pursue strategies to meet professional development needs individually, in collaboration with others and under the supervision of the Principal
a) Cooperate with the Principal in regular and annual teacher/teaching evaluations and resulting professional development needs
10) Maintain records according to district policy and procedures:
a) Maintain necessary records according to legal and UA requirements
b) Use records to obtain and provide accurate information
c) Maintain confidentiality of information
11) Maintain confidentiality of other job related information
12) Perform other job related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
· Valid Minnesota teaching licensure in elementary education
· Demonstrated competencies preferred in best practices for teaching, classroom management, collaboration with other teachers and staff, professional development and confidentiality

PARAPROFESSIONAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Reports to: Department Lead and Director
Purpose: The purpose of this position is to assist teachers and other instructional staff as they instruct students with Urban Academy (UA) instruction strategies, values and practices, with the goal that each student learns and masters knowledge and skills that advance their capabilities and motivations for life and work. Assist students in classrooms, educational programs, buses, lunchrooms, and other areas as needed. The Educational Paraprofessional works under close supervision of a special education teacher, classroom teacher, or other leader.
Responsibilities:
1) Assisting the assigned teacher
a) Provide academic support to students in reading, language, spelling, mathematics, social studies, and other subjects as guided by the classroom teacher.
b) Assist in organizing and maintaining instructional materials and resources.
c) Participate in teaching specialist program activities with students (i.e. physical education, technology, library)
d) Student monitoring during recess and lunch
e) Perform other job related duties as assigned
2) One-to-One Responsibilities when assigned to specific student/s with specific needs of support
Minimum Qualifications:
· Meet the Highly Qualified certification requirements (i.e. passing score on the ParaPro Exam or 2 year degree/2 year of post secondary education)
· Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics
· Basic skills in typing and copy work may be required for some positions
· Knowledge of special education concepts, primary requirements and confidentiality
· Ability to develop good relationships with students, parents and staff
· Ability to be sensitive to the needs of others

Earn $25.10 an hour or more as an Interceptor Service Operator

The Metropolitan Council’s Interceptor Service Operator Career Skills Trainee program is designed to build a pipeline of candidates to apply for work as Interceptor Service Operators. Interceptor Service Operators maintain the sewer pipes and systems operated by Environmental Services (ES). The program is seeking to recruit candidates who are BIPoC, female, persons with disabilities, people who have been incarcerated that may face barriers to careers and/or youth between the ages of 18 to 24. The Career Skills Program is a 1-year, On-The-Job Training opportunity for people interested in employment as an Interceptor Service Operator.


To be eligible for recruitment, participants must attend and complete three Preparatory Sessions which include:


1. One 2-hour orientation session that includes an introduction to the Met Council and MCES, as well as the job of the Interceptor Operator. It will also include an overview of the Water Utilities Treatment Technology training program content, format and Program expectations. Online Only.
2. One 4-hour tour of an MCES sewer interceptor site, followed by additional instruction. In-Person Only.
3. One 2-hour session that will include participant presentations, feedback and assessment. In-Person Only


Once participants complete the Preparatory Sessions they will be invited to apply for the positions as Interceptor Service Operator Trainee. During the on-the-job training period, participants will be paired with work and community mentors. Their weekly work duties will include 20 hours working as an Interceptor Service Operator Assistant and 20 hours receiving training and testing in wastewater technician and operations.


Participants must successfully complete the Careers Skills Program before being offered regular employment with ES. Applicants must possess a High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) and be able to get a CDL. Sign Up for the program here. Sign up by July 1.
